16 September 2013 It’s not every day of the week that a concert takes place to celebrate a special event in your life but for five couples Saturday October 12 will do just that. Melksham Assembly Hall is the venue for a concert entitled ‘A Golden Evening’. This is part of the worldwide Voices for Hospices programme raising money in this area for Dorothy House Hospice care. Jim and Judy Speed who live in Melksham are celebrating their Golden Wedding this year. They have organised a number of concerts on behalf of Wiltshire Freemasonry and this will be their sixth with a total of £12,000 raised in the last nine years. Bath music man Grenville Jones is a close friend of Jim and Judy and is helping to stage the concert at Melksham on October 12. Grenville’s famous male choir from Last Choir Standing Bath Male Choir and his talented mixed choir THE Bath Chorus will be taking part. Guess soloist will be the brilliant young baritone Tom Corbishley. Tom hails from Trowbridge but is now studying music and drama in Essex. The violin and accordion duo Gitane will also be appearing. They have entertained audiences from across the world. The five couples who are celebrating their Golden Weddings are Jim and Judy, Philip and Joyce Evry, Graham and Ivy Mattock, Graham and Jo Partt and Alex and Sheila Carruthers . Jim Speed said; “We have had some fantastic concerts supporting Voices for Hospices and we hope this will be the best yet. The theme of the evening will be music of the 60s and it will be a delight to share the celebration with four other couples. “Grenville will introduce the evening in his innovative style and there will of course be the opportunity for all of the audience to sing!” Doors open at 7pm.
