What’s in a name?
Bath based choir leader and music man Grenville Jones has met very few other ‘Grenvilles’ in his lifetime. However through Facebook Grenville was introduced to a new Facebook friend, his namesake Grenville Jones who lives in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Through various posts and pictures Grenville in Nova Scotia soon picked up on the choirs and charity work led by his namesake in the West of England.
“Grenville was particularly interested to follow the visit of Bath Male Choir to Japan last November and on Christmas Day he sent me a greeting and suggested that I should take one of my choirs to Nova Scotia on a choir visit this year, 2015.”
Following on from that the dates have been set, August 23-August 31 when a choir of 50 singers from the West of England will be flying to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and staying in the city throughout the 8 days.
The name of the choir? The Grenville Choir of course.
“I’ve contacted all of the members across my choirs and the group of singers will represent all of them. We will be holding some special rehearsals for The Grenville Choir and we are all looking forward to singing for Grenville this August in Canada.
“I have met three other people with the same Christian name as me in England but this is certainly the first Grenville Jones that I have ever got to know.
“It will be great to meet face to face in August with a choir that is named after my new friend in Nova Scotia.”
Grenville’s choirs in England include the famous Bath Male Choir, THE Bath Chorus, The Welcome Choir, The Bath and Devizes Good Afternoon Choirs, Bath Children’s Choir and the Norland College Choir.
He is also founder of the Goldies Charity which now organises daytime singing and activity sessions for older isolated people living across Southern England and South Wales.
ENDS
